Covey Vitamin C Serum Review

Long, tiring days in the hospital that start with 3:45am alarms and don't end until 6pm make me feel entitled to online shopping and good skincare. *adds multiple items to cart while muttering “I DESERVE THIS”*

Enter Covey... Covey is the skincare line created by best friends Emily DiDonato and Christina Uribe. Since I work in healthcare, I’m often skeptical and wary of new skincare trends, but I was interested in Covey because I’ve followed Emily’s skincare journey for a while, which she’s been very transparent and genuine about.

What's cool about Covey is it was borne out of "listening" to what women are concerned about — what we're talking about on Reddit, testing on Youtube videos, asking our friends. For example, I was in a Zoom meeting with Emily & Christina where they asked for feedback on their products! I know what you're thinking…"pics or it didn’t happen"…

Boom. I ZOOMED WITH EMILY DIDONATO. Undeniable photographic evidence that this actually occurred. They even sent me the cute Covey makeup bag as a gift to say thank you. No, thank you Emily and Christina, thank YOU.

Okay back to the actual skincare lol... Since I study anesthesia, not derm, I have to do my own self-teaching regarding skincare ingredients. I did a little analysis of the ingredients in Covey’s Next Up Vitamin C serum, and thought I’d post it here so I could refer back to it (I often forget what I learn about skincare ingredients after a few months)… also, I thought it might be useful in case anyone else on the internet was interested :)

Covey Next Up Vitamin C Serum Ingredients Analysis

Water (Aqua)

Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate: a newer form of vitamin C that is not as well proven as regular vitamin C, but has the advantages over regular vit C of being very stable and oil-soluble (penetrates skin easily).

Vitamin C is an antioxidant that (1) when paired w sunscreen, improves UV protection, (2) boosts collagen production, and (3) reduces dark spots

Ethoxydiglycol: a base for other skincare ingredients

Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride: emollient (softens, smooths skin)

Jasminum Officinale Flower Extract: this might be in here to add fragrance and/or support moisture

Lavandula Angustifolia Flower Extract: I think this is primarily in here for fragrance? Not sure.

Vitis Vinifera Seed Extract: antioxidant; UV protection

Tetrasodium Glutamate Diacetate: stabilizes the skincare formula

Propanediol: a base for skincare ingredients

Pentylene Glycol: gives skincare a silky texture; antimicrobial

Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer: gives skincare a thicker luxurious texture

Glycerin: very classic, proven natural moisturizer/humectant

Phenethyl Alcohol: fragrance; antimicrobial

Tocopheryl Acetate: aka vitamin E, which is an antioxidant that is often paired with vitamin C because together they have synergistic effects

Sodium Hydroxide: stabilizes the skincare formula

Conclusion or TLDR;

I've been using it for a month now, I’ve really loved it, and I definitely plan on repurchasing. I don’t know what to say other than it works well and makes skincare so… simple. I'm also going to try out the full Covey routine (cleanser + moisturizer) too. If you're interested, check out Covey here :)

P.S. This was not at all sponsored. These are my true feelings about true events… I really do wake up at 3:45am, and it really does make me feel entitled to online shopping and good skincare lol
